A seven-year-old girl of Mulonyeni Mazyopa Village in Chief Mazimawe’s area of Chipata District, Eastern Province, has drowned in the Msipazi stream.

The incident was reported to the Chipata City Council Fire Brigade on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at around 17:00 hours after the child was suspected to have fallen into the stream.

He commended community members for quickly reporting the incident to the fire brigade and assured the public that the Council, through its fire branch, would continue to respond to emergencies promptly.

“The local authority further urges members of the public to take precautionary measures to safeguard children, particularly around water bodies,” Mlauzi said.
