The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has heard disturbing details in the ongoing trial of Matero-based clergyman, Bishop John General, who is accused of allegedly raping a woman during a home prayer visit and allegedly threatening to shoot her when she resisted.

Testifying before the court, Assistant Superintendent, Fwalanga Willinstone, 47, said he was stationed at Matero Police Station between 2022 and 2025 and was assigned to the case.

He told the court that on November 22, 2023, he received a report from Barlastone Police Post around 16:00 hours indicating that Bishop John General—real name John Nundwe—was accused of rape and had fled the scene.

Detective Simasiku, dispatched to the scene, returned with personal items allegedly left behind by the suspect. These included a black BMW cap, grey Nike shorts, black half shoes, a striped T-shirt, black belt, iPhone 13 Pro Max, car keys, a blue undergarment, green trousers, and blankets with suspected blood stains.

A black vehicle bearing registration number BCD 373 was also recovered.

All items were tendered in court as evidence.

The complainant, identified only as E.N., told police she had been married for six years and had suffered multiple miscarriages. After watching a TV testimony about miraculous conception through Bishop General’s church, she sought spiritual intervention and invited him for prayers at her home.

She alleged that on the day in question, the Bishop arrived with another man. While the man stayed in the living room, General followed her into a spare bedroom and later asked to see the main bedroom. Upon returning, she claimed, she found him naked and demanding sex.

When she resisted, he allegedly threatened her with a gun.

She further stated that during the assault, her husband walked in and found General on top of her. General then reportedly called out to the other man to bring a gun.

In the ensuing commotion, he allegedly fled the scene naked by jumping over the wall fence.

Police later visited the scene, and Bishop General, who leads Miracle Impact Ministries International, subsequently reported to Matero Police Station.

He was interviewed under warn and caution and denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rokya Ginwalla, 57, a medical expert from the Gender-Based Violence One-Stop Centre at the University Teaching Hospital, testified that the complainant appeared distressed but had no physical injuries.

She confirmed that the woman was menstruating at the time of examination and had already bathed and changed clothes, potentially affecting the forensic outcome. A genital examination and swab test were conducted, but results came back negative for spermatozoa. No fresh injuries were found, and the hymen appeared normal.

Under cross-examination, Dr. Ginwalla acknowledged that the medical findings did not corroborate the complaint, and there was insufficient evidence to medically confirm rape.
