Czech Republic hails Zambia’s global peacekeeping role

The Czech Republic has praised Zambia for its efforts in maintaining peace and security across the world.

Newly appointed Czech Republic Ambassador to Zambia, Jiri Kyrian, said Zambia’s role in peacekeeping missions was well recognized across the world.

Kyrian said this when during a courtesy call on Minister of Defence Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma, at his office in Lusaka on Monday, according to a statement issued by Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala.

Kyrian said Zambia deserved the credit as a peacemaker because it was a major contributor of troops to international efforts to finding lasting peace and security in wartorn countries.

“Peace and security is now a national identity for Zambia as the country is now a global leader in that area,” he said.

Kyrian stated that over the years, Zambia had built on its founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s vision of good neighbourliness among countries.

In response, Lufuma appreciated the support and friendship which the Czech Republic shared with Zambia adding that relations had been growing especially in the area of defence.

“Zambia is engaging international partners like the Czech Republic to promote peace and security across the world,” he said.

Lufuma said Zambia was a reliable partner when it came to contributing troops to peacekeeping missions under the African Union and the United Nations.
