The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has extended the mass voter registration exercise by 15 days, running from November 12 to November 26, 2025.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, ECZ Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis, urged eligible citizens to use the extended period, warning that no further extensions would be granted.

“Having taken into account the field reports, the observed progress, and the remaining number of unregistered eligible citizens, the Commission has decided to extend the voter registration by a period of fifteen (15) days,” Zaloumis said.

She said the extension provided an additional opportunity for all eligible citizens who had not yet registered or updated their voter details.

“The surge in turnouts demonstrates that the measures the Commission put in place are yielding positive results,” Zaloumis said, adding that the increased number of registered voters reflected growing civic responsibility.

Zaloumis acknowledged the support of political parties, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, the media, and community-based organisations, saying they had played a vital role in encouraging voter registration.

“The Commission urges all eligible citizens who have not taken part in the process to visit the nearest registration centre within this period to ensure that they register to vote. Those who have relocated or lost their cards should also obtain a new voters’ card,” she said.

She emphasized that the registration period will not be extended beyond November 26, 2025, and noted that the extension aligned with the 2026 General Election Roadmap.

“The Commission is encouraged by the steady progress made during the registration period and appreciates the enthusiasm of citizens participating in shaping the future of democracy,” Zaloumis said.
