Zambia continues to face a heavy malaria burden, with 30,000 new cases reported daily and 4–5 deaths every day, the End Malaria Council (EMC) Communication and Advocacy Committee has revealed.

Council Chairperson, Malcolm Chabala, made the announcement during a press briefing in Lusaka on Friday, outlining recent efforts by the Council to eliminate malaria in Zambia and discussing a new partnership with the Ministry of Information and Media.

Chabala stressed the need for multi-sectoral collaboration to tackle malaria effectively and highlighted the Council’s commitment to bridging gaps in the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (NMEC) through resource mobilization, rapid introduction of new tools, and innovative initiatives.

As part of these efforts, the EMC launched the ‘Buy a Bicycle Campaign’ to provide 18,600 bicycles for trained community health workers, enabling them to reach remote areas.

The Council has also established the ‘End Malaria Enterprise’ to promote sustainable financing and raise awareness in support of the malaria programme.

Meanwhile, Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, said the new agreement outlines a framework for collaboration between the Ministry and EMC, covering advocacy, development of investment cases, and stakeholder engagement.

“These efforts are aimed at promoting innovative financing opportunities for malaria, health, and broader development initiatives,” Kawana said.
