Explosions hit northern Israel amid US-Israel strikes on Iran

0

Explosions shook northern Israel on Saturday as the country activated its air defence systems to intercept incoming missiles from Iran.

The blasts came shortly after the Israel Defense Forces announced it was deploying its air defences to counter the Iranian attacks, reports Euronews.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the ongoing exchanges.

United States President, Donald Trump, confirmed that American forces had begun “major combat operations” in Iran following Israel’s “pre-emptive” strike on Tehran Saturday morning.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime,” Trump said.

The strikes come amid heightened tensions in the region as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations over limiting Iran’s nuclear programme.

In response, Iran warned of a strong retaliation.

The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran declared it would “respond decisively to the aggressors,” insisting the country had “done everything necessary to prevent war. Just as we were ready for negotiations, we are now more prepared than ever to defend the Iranian nation,” the foreign ministry added.
