Former diplomat Ponga elected chairperson of Zambia We Want party

Former diplomat and lecturer, Dr. Auxilia Ponga, has been elected Chairperson of the Zambia We Want (ZWW) Party, Party Secretary General Muhabi Lungu has announced.

Ponga contested the position against Bert Mushala and was duly declared the winner by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Friday.

“As per the constitution of ZWW, Dr. Ponga becomes the Head of the Party and the most senior office holder of the organization,” Lungu said in a statement issued on Saturday.

He added that Ponga brings a wealth of leadership and administrative experience, having served with the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, the United Nations system, and as a Permanent Secretary in the Zambian government. She is also currently a university lecturer.

“The Zambia We Want looks forward to having her at the helm of the institution,” Lungu said.
