The government has with immediate effect shut down two Chinese-owned firms in Kabwe District of Central Province—Super Deal and Fine Steel—for breaching environmental laws.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, government officials conducted impromptu inspections at the two companies located within the heavy industrial area of Kabwe.
Central Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Tobias Phiri, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Kabwe.
He said the inspection team was led by Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Godfrey Chitambala and Kabwe District Commissioner, Lenox Shimwambwa, accompanied by area Member of Parliament Chrizoster Halwindi Phiri and officers from the Kabwe Municipal Council.

According to Phiri, the firms have been directed to implement remedial measures before being allowed to resume operations.
“Among the findings were gas and smoke emissions, lack of protective equipment such as gloves and safety boots, and unsanitary toilets for employees,” Phiri said.
Other violations included operating without a chimney, exposing workers to extreme temperatures without protective clothing, and discharging raw sewage into the environment.
“It is against this background that companies and industries are advised to comply with the law regarding the working environment,” Phiri added.
