The Zambian government has once again dismissed allegations of a cover-up in the Sino-Metal Leach Limited pollution incident that has drawn global attention.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe on Wednesday, Acting Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu, said government had been transparent about the acid spillage from the outset.

“I want to further emphasize that there is no cover-up whatsoever by the government on this matter. This is the reason why even the call for expression of interest on July 10, 2025, was also conveyed to all our diplomatic partners through established diplomatic channels by means of a note verbale,” Nzovu said.

He stressed that any stakeholder wishing to play a role in resolving the issue was welcome to collaborate with government.

Nzovu assured that authorities remain committed to protecting lives, ecosystems, and surrounding communities from the effects of the pollution.

At the same time, he issued a stern warning against individuals accused of spreading false information about the matter, saying such actions were fuelling public unrest and panic.

“As patriotic Zambians, we have an obligation to disseminate only accurate information,” he said.
