Retired Judge Justice Lombe Chibesakunda, Chairperson of Ethical Leadership, Democracy and Development (CEELDD), has said that the National Conference of Democratic Change Advocates will be held from February this year.

The gathering will, for the first time, bring together multiple opposition political parties, democratic change movements, civic leaders, youth and women’s formations, he claimed.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Chibesakunda said the conference would also include faith and traditional leaders, as well as independent citizens, to jointly shape and endorse a unified government‑in‑waiting for Zambia.

She described the initiative as a decisive step towards offering the nation a credible, principled, and prepared alternative government.

“This historic conference is being organized, hosted, and conducted by the Center for Policy and Dialogue (CPD), in collaboration with key national stakeholders,” Chibesakunda said.

She noted that CPD was a long‑standing, non‑partisan policy research institution that, since the re-introduction of multi-party democracy, had played a vital role in facilitating inclusive national dialogue and consensus-building.

Chibesakunda added that at a moment of deep economic strain and democratic fatigue, the initiative seeks to renew hope by demonstrating that diverse political actors and citizens could rise above division.

“It also seeks to demonstrate that stakeholders can act together in the national interest, and present a ready, accountable leadership team anchored in Zambia’s Constitution and values,” she said.

She indicated that further details on participating organizations, the programme, and media accreditation would be shared in due course.
