Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has raised concern over the lack of X-ray services in some health facilities across the country, noting that several hospitals either did not have the equipment or had machines that had remained non-operational for extended periods.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, MQHZ Director General, Dr Quincy Mwabu, said the situation had resulted in patients being referred to other facilities for basic imaging services.
Mwabu further noted that laboratory departments in many health facilities continued to face challenges due to inadequate investment in modern equipment and essential laboratory commodities.
He said this had limited the capacity of health institutions to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient management.
“There is a need for all general hospitals to be equipped with functional CT scan machines in order to improve timely diagnosis and effective management of complex medical conditions,” Mwabu said.
Mwabu also stated that delays in monthly funding allocations to health facilities continue to affect day-to-day operations and negatively impact service delivery at facility level.
“The Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) commends the Government, through the Ministry of Health, for the notable progress recorded in the health sector over the past four years,” Mwabu added.
