The Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum Zambia (CSEIFZ) has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend the mobile voter registration exercise until December 2025.
Chairperson, Solomon Ngoma, said the extension would give more time to eligible voters who may have missed earlier phases due to distance, lack of information, or other challenges.
Ngoma, in a statement issued in Lusaka, noted that the extension would also allow ECZ to reach more people and ensure that every citizen has a fair chance to register.
He encouraged ECZ to continue improving its systems, sharing information openly, and working closely with all stakeholders to make the 2026 elections a success.
“Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum Zambia acknowledges the efforts made by the Electoral Commission of Zambia in the ongoing mobile voter registration exercise, especially during phases three and four,” Ngoma stated.
While progress is being made, Ngoma said his organisation believes more can be done to ensure transparency and wider participation ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“We urge ECZ to release complete statistics from phases three and four of the mobile voter registration exercise. These figures should be broken down by province, district, and constituency,” he said.
He also called on ECZ to involve civil society organizations and other stakeholders in open discussions, saying the meetings should focus on reviewing the current voter registration process, identifying challenges, and developing better guidelines and strategies well before the 2026 elections.
“Early planning and collaboration will help make the process more inclusive and effective,” Ngoma stated.
