A 19-year-old has chosen to remain silent after the Lusaka High Court ruled that he has a case to answer for allegedly killing his parents.

In a recent ruling, High Court Judge Getrude Chawatama said the State had presented sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against Bushimbwe Mwakacheya.

Mwakacheya is accused of murdering his parents, Nathaniel Mwakacheya, 53, and Pemba Mwakacheya, 52, at their Salama Park residence in August 2022.

Court proceedings indicated that the alleged killings occurred between midnight and 10:00 hours, with the victims reportedly attacked using metal bars.

The bodies were later discovered inside the house, wrapped in blankets and covered with plastic.

Despite being placed on his defence, Mwakacheya opted not to testify. The court has since adjourned the matter to a later date for judgement.
