The Patriotic Front (PF) presidential aspirants have agreed to propose the postponement of the party’s planned convention, following a unity meeting held under the guidance of senior party elders.

In a statement issued on behalf of all candidates on Sunday , Makebi Zulu, said the meeting focused on resolving perceived conflicts and strengthening cohesion within the opposition party. He said he had been authorised to speak for the group.

Zulu said the session was facilitated by former Republican Vice-President, Inonge Mutukwa Wina, Ambassador Paul Lumbi and former PF National Chairperson Ng’onga Mukupa, who urged the contenders to prioritise unity as the party navigates internal tensions.

“Following the successful talks, it has been agreed that the parties continue engaging in fostering oneness and unity of purpose,” he said.

Zulu said: “As such, the meeting resolved to propose to the central committee to postpone the holding of the proposed convention to a later date as shall be decided by the central committee.”

Zulu added that the PF had “withstood external and internal conflict over time” and must again rise to the challenge of demonstrating unity to the nation.

The meeting was attended by all nine presidential aspirants: Chishimba Kambwili, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Makebi Zulu, Chitalu Chilufya, Miles B. Sampa, Chanda Katotobwe, Greyford Monde, Brian Mundubile and Given Lubinda.

Zulu expressed hope that the renewed commitment to dialogue would stabilise the party and strengthen its democratic processes.
