National Democratic Congress Party leader, Saboi Imboela, has condemned the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) decision to summon Tonse Alliance leader Brian Mundubile, describing it as a blatant attack on democracy and an attempt by the ruling UPND to silence strong political opponents.
Imboela argued that the move amounts to a political witch-hunt, claiming the timing appears intended to destabilize Mundubile ahead of the upcoming elections.
She noted that Mundubile has had no court cases since 2021, adding that the summons suggest a troubling pattern of state institutions being used to target those perceived as threats to the ruling party.
In an interview with Zambia Monitor, Imboela said Mundubile’s rising popularity may have triggered the probe.
“The UPND is not interested in democracy; they are only interested in maintaining power,” she said, urging citizens to remain vigilant against what she described as attempts to undermine Zambia’s plural political system.
Imboela argued that such actions weaken both democracy and genuine anti-corruption efforts, warning that the country could be drifting toward a one-party state.
“We won’t be intimidated. We’ll continue to push for democracy and accountability. Zambians must stay vigilant,” she said.

Meanwhile, Democratic Union Party leader, Ackim Njobvu, has welcomed the ACC’s decision to summon Mundubile, calling it an opportunity for the opposition leader to clear his name.
Njobvu said the investigation could help Mundubile address longstanding allegations surrounding a K1.5 billion transaction involving public resources.
He argued that transparency was essential, especially as Mundubile prepares to contest in the forthcoming general elections.
“There’s nothing wrong with Mundubile responding to the ACC; it’s an opportunity for him to clean himself and be a free citizen in the elections,” Njobvu said.
He added that accountability in the management of public resources was crucial and encouraged Mundubile to use the summons as a chance to demonstrate openness.
“Mundubile should use this as an opportunity to exonerate himself and clean his hands,” Njobvu reiterated.
