Imenda orders strict media coordination days after UPND Deputy Sec-Gen urged certain grade of lawmakers to quit parliament

United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary-General, Batuke Imenda, has directed that all statements relating to party activities, welfare, or publicity must be coordinated through the party’s media director or media team before release.

Imenda said the measure was aimed at ensuring that communications remained accurate, consistent, and reflective of the party’s official position.

In a statement issued on Friday, Imenda noted that recent instances of statements made without prior consultation had caused confusion and misalignment within the party.

“The party urges all officials to consult with the media team before engaging with the media or issuing public statements,” he said.

Imenda stressed that such coordination would safeguard the party’s reputation, strengthen its messaging, and ensure professionalism in all public communications.

His directive comes days after Deputy Secretary-General, Gertrude Imenda, suggested that lawmakers who had served more than 10 years should “honourably pave way for fresh blood.”

The Secretary-General later dismissed her remarks, clarifying that they did not represent the ruling party’s official stance.

Imenda further warned that statements issued without consultation might be subject to corrective action in line with party policy.

“The party remains committed to transparency, unity, and responsible communication as it continues to serve the people of Zambia,” he assured.
