Harry Kane scored twice as Chelsea fell 3-1 to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on their return to the UEFA Champions League after nearly two and a half years away.
Enzo Maresca’s side produced a bold and proactive display, dominating much of the first half before being undone by two Bayern goals in seven minutes — a Trevoh Chalobah own goal followed by a Kane penalty.

According to ESPN, Chelsea responded immediately through Cole Palmer, who rifled into the top corner with a stunning strike to keep the contest alive before halftime.
However, Bayern’s superior quality eventually told. Just past the hour mark, Kane restored the two-goal cushion with a composed finish after Serge Gnabry’s setup, sealing victory for the home side.
Despite the defeat, Chelsea showed resilience and attacking intent, with Palmer, Enzo Fernández, and Marc Cucurella all posing threats.
Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez also impressed with key saves to deny Kane and Michael Olise.
Maresca highlighted Chelsea’s rapid rise from Conference League playoff contenders a year ago to Champions League participants, and though Bayern exposed their inexperience, the young squad’s spirited display suggested they are learning quickly at Europe’s highest level.
