Kitwe PF reportedly backs Mundubile’s presidential ambition, as Tasila Lungu’s appointment raises dust

Kitwe District Patriotic Front (PF) structures have reportedly thrown their support behind Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile as the Tonse Alliance presidential candidate.

However, a rights advocate has condemned Mundubile’s Tonse Alliance group for appointing Tasila Lungu Mwansa, the daughter of the late Sixth President Edgar Lungu, as national youth chairperson during her period of mourning.

Speaking in Kitwe on Monday, when he received former PF Secretary General Davis Mwila, PF Kitwe District Chairperson Evaristo Chilufya said all district structures had resolved to support Mundubile.

“We have all decided to support Mr Mundubile because he is a visionary leader. Please tell him we are all behind his leadership,” Chilufya said.

He added that there was a need to move forward and start preparing for the general elections, which are drawing near.

Mwila is reportedly on a countrywide tour to garner support for Mundubile, who was recently elected president and presidential candidate of the Tonse Alliance.

Governance and Human Rights Organisations Executive Director Dr. Noel Chisebe condemned what he described as the politicization of grief, calling for respect for the Lungu family during their mourning period.

“We strongly condemn the actions of Brian Mundubile for appointing Tasila Lungu as national chairperson for youths amidst her mourning period,” Chisebe said.

He noted that the decision disregarded Zambian cultural values, which prioritized respect and privacy for bereaved families.

“Using the passing of former President Edgar Lungu’s father indirectly for political gain is unacceptable,” he added, urging PF/Tonse members to refrain from politicizing the tragedy and respect the family’s need for privacy.
