Late double sends Burkina Faso top of Group E in dramatic AFCON comeback against Equitoriol Guinea

Burkina Faso staged a stunning late comeback on Wednesday, defeating Equatorial Guinea 2–1 in the opening Group E match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Dominated for much of the contest, Equatorial Guinea appeared to have snatched victory when Marvin Anieboh scored in the 85th minute.

However, Foot Africa reports that the Stallions showed remarkable resilience, turning the match on its head deep into stoppage time.

Georgi Minoungou equalised in the 95th minute before Edmond Tapsoba struck just three minutes later, sealing a dramatic win.

The victory places Burkina Faso alone at the top of Group E as they await the result of the other fixture between Algeria and Sudan.

For Equatorial Guinea, the pressure is already mounting, with their next group match against Sudan now crucial.

With two — and potentially three — places in the Round of 16 up for grabs, Group E is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested pools of the tournament.
