English side Liverpool beat Spain’s Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the league phase of football’s UEFA Champions League.
The match, played at Anfield in Liverpool, saw captain Virgil van Dijk score an injury-time winner to seal the victory.

According to Al Jazeera Sport, Liverpool, last season’s English Premier League champions, also topped the league phase of last season’s Champions League.
Atletico Madrid, who finished third in Spain’s La Liga last season, are currently struggling in 11th place in their domestic league, with only one win from four games.
Meanwhile, record Champions League winners Real Madrid began their new European campaign with a 2-1 home victory over Marseille on Tuesday.
