Luangwa Town Council Chairperson, Lawrence Shaba, has praised the Zambia Army for its continued support to the district, particularly in enhancing security and promoting education.

Shaba said the Army’s presence in the border district offered a strong sense of safety for residents.

He also lauded the construction of a primary school by the military, describing it as a major milestone in improving access to education for rural communities.

Speaking during a visit to the Zambia Army stand at the ongoing 97th Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, Shaba noted that the school had significantly reduced the distance children had to travel to attend classes.

“The Zambia Army has made a tangible impact in Luangwa, not only by safeguarding our borders but also by investing in our community’s future through education,” he said.

Shaba further called on the Zambia Army to expand the annual Kavalamanja Commemoration by introducing additional activities to enrich the event.

He said the joint displays and ceremonies held by the Zambian and Zimbabwean Armies during the commemoration event attract strong participation from local residents.

Held every April, the Kavalamanja Commemoration honours the Zambian lives lost during the Battle of Kavalamanja in Luangwa District, a historic clash against Rhodesian forces.
