The Luapula Provincial Administration has emphasized strict adherence to contract specifications, timely completion of works, uncompromised quality assurance, and financial discipline—warning that site inspections would be conducted without prior notice.
Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Prudence Chinama-Kangwa, cautioned that non-performance, unjustified delays, or breaches of contract conditions would attract corrective measures.
According to a statement, Chinama-Kangwa made the remarks during an engagement meeting held in Mansa on Tuesday, where she officially launched the implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure projects across the province.
The projects include the construction of 41 new piped water schemes, rehabilitation of 10 existing schemes, and drilling of 72 boreholes across districts such as Chienge, Chipili, Mwense, Nchelenge, Samfya, Mansa and others.
“You have been competitively engaged because Government has confidence in your technical capacity and ability to deliver. That confidence must now be demonstrated through performance,” she said.
Chinama-Kangwa stressed that the projects were a government priority and must be executed with professionalism, efficiency and integrity.
Provincial Water Supply and Sanitation Officer, Charles Mwale, urged contractors to uphold quality standards, ensure environmental protection, and actively engage beneficiary communities.
Meanwhile, contractors in Luapula Province commended the government for awarding contracts to local companies, describing the move as progressive and key to strengthening indigenous capacity and stimulating economic growth.
Humphrey Musonda, Director of Kampembya Investment Limited, thanked the government for deliberately empowering local contractors, saying the policy had enabled Zambian firms to acquire equipment, expand operations, and create jobs.
