The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has expressed deep concern over a viral social media video showing a Council police officer allegedly soliciting and receiving an undisclosed amount of money from a vlogger at BH Market in the Central Business District (CBD).

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said the actions of the officer were not sanctioned by the Council.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Mwamba emphasized that the LCC did not condone corruption or any form of illegal conduct and remained committed to upholding integrity and accountability in all its operations.

She clarified that the Council had never imposed, nor has it instituted any form of permit for vlogging activities.

“Vlogging is not classified among activities that necessitate Council-issued permits,” Mwamba stated.

Mwamba said the local authority had launched serious investigations into the matter, and that if the officer involved was found wanting, disciplinary action would be taken.

She acknowledged the importance of content creation and its role in promoting tourism and culture.

“We are committed to working with content creators and providing them with the necessary support and guidance within the boundaries of the law,” she assured.

Mwamba further noted that the Council valued the contributions of content creators to Lusaka’s image and looked forward to collaborating with them to promote the city as a tourist-friendly destination.
