The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has confiscated 230 assorted cases of alcoholic beverages from two houses in Chilenje Township that were operating as unauthorized liquor distribution points.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said the illegal operations were supplying various liquor stores, bars, and nightclubs across the city.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Mwamba said the joint operation between the Council’s enforcement team and the State Police marked the second raid in Chilenje.

She said the exercise was part of the council’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal alcohol sales and protect consumers from potentially harmful products.

“The seized alcohol includes expired products that were rebranded, relabeled, and packaged in incorrect materials, posing a significant risk to public health,” Mwamba stated.

She explained that the activities were in direct contravention of the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011.

“The LCC remains committed to combating the illegal sale of alcohol and bringing perpetrators to justice,” Mwamba assured.

She added that the Council would continue conducting similar operations in other parts of the city to eliminate the sale of illicit liquor.

“The LCC urges members of the public to report any suspected cases of illicit liquor sales. By working together, we can ensure a safer environment for all residents of Lusaka,” she said.

Mwamba reaffirmed the Council’s resolve to uphold law and order in the capital city.
