Macky 2 claims police arrested him for meeting unpaid ex-miners

Musician and aspiring Nchanga Member of Parliament, Mulaza Kaira, has claimed he was arrested for sitting with a group of former miners who had allegedly gone unpaid since 2020.

Kaira, who is contesting the Nchanga constituency in Zambia, said the ex-miners had contributed significantly to the nation’s development through their labour but were still waiting for their full pension benefits.

He wrote the remarks on his Facebook page shortly after being reportedly released on Wednesday following brief police detention.

He stated that he met the group not to make promises but to listen to their grievances, adding that their struggles were real and deserved national attention.

“Allow me to use this little viral moment to humbly ask our very capable government to look into this matter,” Kaira wrote.

Describing the unpaid miners as “fathers, neighbours, and the hands that powered the economy,” he argued that they were not merely names on a list but people whose dignity had been overlooked.

“Leadership is about serving, not surrendering. The journey is bigger than any one person; it’s about restoring dignity to the forgotten,” he said, thanking supporters who expressed concern during his detention.

Kaira, popularly known in music circles as Macky 2, reiterated that his engagement with the miners was driven by a desire to ensure they finally receive what they were owed.
