Zambia will not be represented at this year’s Miss Grand International following the withdrawal of Miss Grand Zambia, Anna Musonda, due to unfulfilled funding commitments.
In an official statement issued by Arm Model Management Chief Executive Officer, Alice Rowlands Musukwa, the organizers confirmed that despite successfully raising part of the required budget, the remaining balance could not be secured in time.
“Arm Model Management and Nkanda Yatu managed to raise K90,000, of which K30,000 was paid as a non-refundable license deposit and K60,000 went toward wardrobe preparations,” Musukwa explained in a statement.
She said the remaining balance was expected to come from contributions pledged by Chongwe Mayor, Christopher Habeenzu and Member of Parliament, Sylvia Masebo.
However, Musukwa said the organizers noted that despite repeated communication and a September deadline, calls and messages went unanswered.
“As a result, Anna will be unable to represent Zambia this year. Help is not mandatory, but communication is. Timely responses would have allowed us to plan better; unfortunately, we have run out of time,” said.
The organizers emphasized that all other requirements had been secured, including Musonda’s air ticket, wardrobe, photoshoots, and national costume.
However, without the outstanding funds, participation was no longer possible.
Anna Musonda, described as “a proud daughter of Chongwe who has contributed greatly to community initiatives,” would now be considered for participation in next year’s competition.
Musukwa extended gratitude to sponsors and institutions that supported the journey, including Zambia Ku Chalo, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Jelumu Zambia, and Zamtel.
Miss Grand International is one of the world’s leading beauty pageants, and Zambia’s absence this year will be a setback for the country’s representation on the global stage.
