Mopani Copper Mines has dissolved the Nkana Football Club executive committee (EXCO) with immediate effect and appointed a three-member committee to oversee the club’s affairs.

Mopani Chief Executive Officer, Charles Sakanya, said the decision was difficult but necessary, citing the continued underperformance of the team.

“In the interim, we have appointed Justin Bwalya (Mopani Engineering Superintendent) as interim president, supported by David Phiri (Mopani Business Controller) and Makosa Zulu (Mopani Legal Officer),” Sakanya said.

“This team will be responsible for realigning and strengthening the operations of the club as we work towards a sustainable turnaround,” he said.

The interim committee will serve until elections are held in January 2026, while the Secretariat will be headed by an acting Chief Executive Officer.

Sakanya also paid tribute to the outgoing EXCO, headed by Joseph Silwamba, for their contribution to the club’s development and reaffirmed Mopani’s continued support.

“We are challenging our supporters to help grow the fan base. Our target is to recruit 300,000 committed supporters between now and March 2026, with whom we aim to drive Nkana FC,” he added.
