Nigeria on Saturday defeated Egypt 4‑2 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes to claim third place at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) at Stade Mohammed V.

With both sides  looking to end their tournament on a high after semi-final heartbreak, the match began with a cautious approach from both teams, as Nigeria and Egypt looked to avoid early mistakes.

According to live score from google.com, the Super Eagles controlled possession in midfield, while the Pharaohs focused on quick transitions and tight defensive organization.

Chances were limited in the first half, with both goalkeepers rarely tested with Nigeria’s best opportunity coming in the 34th minute when Chukwueze’s curling effort from the edge of the box forced an acrobatic save from Egypt’s goalkeeper, keeping the scoreline level.

Egypt responded minutes later with a quick counter, as Ramadan Sobhi fired just over the crossbar after a clever through ball, showing flashes of attacking intent.

Despite the increasing tempo after break, neither side could break the deadlock, as both defences remained disciplined.

With the match still tied 0‑0 after 90 minutes, the game moved to penalties where Nigeria converted all four of their spot-kicks, while Egypt missed two, handing the Super Eagles a 4‑2 shootout victory.

The win extends Nigeria’s perfect record in AFCON third-place matches and gives the team a ninth bronze medal, reinforcing their reputation as a powerhouse in continental consolation fixtures.
