North Western police charge 123, detain 12 following Zambezi District operations

Police in North Western Province have charged 123 suspects with the offence of Conduct Likely to Cause a Breach of Peace. This is out of the 135 arrested in Zambezi District.

The arrests were made during operations conducted in Zambezi District on August 17 and 18, 2025.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday that the 123 suspects have been released from police custody after paying Admission of Guilt (A of G) fines, with detailed records of those released maintained.

Meanwhile, twelve suspects remain in detention. Eleven of them—comprising one female and ten males—have been charged with Possession of Offensive Weapons, while one male suspect faces charges of Malicious Damage to Property.

“All the 12 suspects still in detention will appear in court soon,” Hamoonga said.

He assured the public that the situation in the affected areas remained calm and normal.

“The Zambia Police Service assures members of the public of its continued commitment to maintaining law and order, and ensuring that justice is dispensed fairly and without discrimination,” Hamoonga added.
