Police in Northern Province have expressed concern over a rise in suicide cases after a 23-year-old man, Shadrick Simazuo, was found dead in Kasama district.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Northern Province Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda, Simazuo died by hanging himself with a T-shirt for unknown reasons between March 12, 2026, around 18:00 hours and March 13, 2026, at about 08:00 hours at Chipomo in Kasama.

Mulonda said the deceased, a businessman, had been conducting his usual activity of selling beer from his shop on March 12.
Neighbours noticed the shop locked from the inside the following morning and contacted his uncle, who discovered Simazuo hanging inside.
“A report was made at Kasama Police station and officers visited the scene where they found the deceased hanging dead,” Mulonda said.
“All signs of suicide were noted indicating no foul play,” he said.
The body has been deposited at Kasama General Hospital Mortuary pending burial arrangements.
Mulonda warned that suicide cases appear increasingly frequent in the province and urged people to seek counseling from churches and community elders rather than taking their own lives.
“Such deaths traumatize immediate family members such as spouses and children of the deceased person,” he said.
