Police in Kitwe say more than 1,200 people were arrested during the festive season, with goods worth thousands of Kwacha recovered in the ongoing fight against criminal activities.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Mwala Yuyi, said on Wednesday that the arrests were made during various operations aimed at curbing a rise in crime within the district.
Speaking during the display of the recovered items at Kitwe Central Police Station, Yuyi said the arrests involved individuals linked to multiple offences.

“Among the items discovered included television sets, mattresses, solar panels, gas stoves, phones, gaming machines popularly known as bonanza, and three vehicles, among others,” he said in a statement.
Yuyi added that the recovery comes at a time when the province continued to record an increase in criminal activity.
He cautioned individuals terrorising members of the public to desist from unlawful behaviour or face the full force of the law.
“Let me assure the people of Kitwe that the police will work tirelessly to ensure that law and order is restored in the district,” Yuyi said.
