The Republican Progressive Party (RPP) has condemned acts of arson and riotous behaviour in Chingola District, Copperbelt Province, during President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent visit.

RPP National Women’s Secretary, Simangile Magodi, urged youths to uphold peace, show respect for the Presidency, and seek dialogue rather than resorting to violence.

“Leadership should always be treated with dignity, as disrespect towards the Head of State undermines the values of unity and national harmony,” Magodi said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.

She criticized political parties and individuals who celebrate or encourage such misconduct, calling it irresponsible and unpatriotic.

“We also condemn, in the strongest terms, the conduct of political parties and individuals who are celebrating or encouraging such acts of misconduct. It is irresponsible and unpatriotic to glorify behaviour that threatens our peace and stability as a nation,” Magodi said.

Magodi praised President Hichilema for his calm and forgiving response, noting that restraint prevented a potentially tragic outcome.

“We therefore call upon all youths to emulate this example and pursue dialogue, respect, and discipline in all political and civic engagements. Let us not be used as tools of division, but as builders of peace and unity,” she added.
