Leadership Movement (LM) leader, Dr. Richard Silumbe, has threatened to sue police officers at Mtendere Police Station in Lusaka if the high Command fails to avail the party with a list of officers who brutalised and arrested party youths recently.

Silumbe who has issued an ultimatum of 48 hours vowed to pursue the case up to the courts of law.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the party Secretariat in Lusaka on Saturday, Silumbe expressed shock that the two youths were beaten for allegedly wearing party T-shirts labelled vote for Dr. Richard Silumbe.

He claimed that the police at Mtendere Police Station secretly released one of the arrested youths upon realising that he was sick after being badly beaten.

“It’s unfortunate that the police are not taking up the case of the attacked youths”, Silumbe alleged.

Silumbe accused the UPND government of backtracking on its promises to Zambians.

“There is need for the opposition to be given a chance to interact with the electorate. I want to indicate that as the voter registration exercise is on going, we shall be visiting registration centres in Lusaka and no one should stop us from interacting with electorate,” he said.

Silumbe also wondered why suspected cadres harassed the media in full view of the police who were only doing their job of covering the visit to the police.

He indicated that his party would work to mobilise Zambians to register to vote ahead of the 2026 elections.

“We will go flat out to sensitize all the people to register so that their can be enough flow of information on the process. There is need for more to be sensitized so that more young people can be accorded the privilege of exercising their right,” Silumbe said.
