Erling Haaland netted twice to continue his sensational goalscoring streak and help move Manchester City up to second in the Premier League with victory over Everton.
According to a BBC Sport report, Haaland, who scored a hat-trick for Norway during the recent international break, struck twice in the second half at the Etihad Stadium, taking his tally to an astonishing 23 goals in just 13 appearances for club and country this season.
The 25-year-old had been kept quiet before the break but made the most of his first real chance, powerfully heading in from Nico O’Reilly’s cross.
Five minutes later, he doubled City’s advantage, sweeping home from Savinho’s cutback, which took a slight deflection off Everton defender James Tarkowski.
Until then, it was David Moyes’ side who had looked more threatening, but their failure to convert early opportunities proved costly.
Everton, buoyed by their last-gasp win over Crystal Palace before the international break, had Iliman Ndiaye troubling the City defence.
The Senegalese forward, who scored at the Etihad last season, intercepted a poor pass from Nathan Ake but his low cross to the back post narrowly missed Beto.
A weaving run and thunderous shot moments later was superbly tipped over by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
At the other end, Everton defender Jake O’Brien was fortunate not to score an own goal when his misdirected header rebounded off the crossbar.
City carved out half-chances in the first period, with Savinho twice denied by Jordan Pickford, before Haaland once again proved the difference in the second half.
