The Zambia Police Service has arrested and formally charged a 23-year-old socialite, Gezile ‘Smith’ Mwale for the offence of Production of Obscene Matters or things, contrary to Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that between 22 and July 27, 2026, the suspect, acting together with other persons, participated in the production of videos depicting persons engaged in obscene acts.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the suspect was further alleged to have circulated the said videos on various social media platforms.
“The matter was reported to the Zambia Police Service Anti-Cyber Crime Unit on 27 July 2026,” Chilabi said.
Investigations were conducted jointly with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency and led to the identification and arrest of Mwale.
He said other persons believed to have been involved remained at large and that efforts to locate and apprehend them were ongoing.
“The suspect has been formally charged and remains in police custody pending appearance in court,” Chilabi said.
He reminded members of the public that the production, possession, publication, and circulation of obscene material are offences under the laws of Zambia.
