Movie lovers who turned up in large numbers for the highly anticipated premiere of The Pawn on Saturday night were left disappointed after a technical failure disrupted screenings of the film.
Several fans attended the event to support Copperbelt-based filmmaker Wyclif Mwamba, but only one cinema was able to screen the movie, leaving the majority of ticket holders unable to watch it as planned.
Following the setback, Mwamba issued a public apology to fans, thanking them for their overwhelming support while expressing regret over the events that unfolded.
“My super fans, I am so sorry, please forgive me. Thank you for your support, my super fans. We made history,” he said on his official Facebook page.

The filmmaker explained that the technical problem arose unexpectedly and promised to provide a detailed statement explaining what caused the disruption.
He also assured fans that all tickets purchased for the premiere would remain valid and that a new screening date would be announced, allowing everyone who missed the film to watch it.
“Your ticket that you bought is still valid, my super fans. You shall watch The Pawn,” Mwamba said.
He stressed that he had never intended to disappoint supporters who had travelled to attend the premiere, describing the incident as being beyond his control.
Mwamba reiterated his commitment to ensuring that every fan who purchased a ticket would eventually have the opportunity to watch the film once fresh screening arrangements are made.
Despite the disappointing outcome, the turnout highlighted the growing support for locally produced films and underscored the anticipation surrounding The Pawn, which attracted a significant crowd for a Zambian movie premiere in recent years.
