Tesla has unveiled a redesigned Roadster capable of briefly lifting into the air, marking its latest push to redefine automotive technology through innovations developed in partnership with SpaceX.
During an event held on Thursday, October 15, the electric vehicle maker showcased the new Roadster fitted with rocket-style thrusters engineered in collaboration with SpaceX.
According to the Punch, the demonstration featured the sports car lifting off the ground, rotating while airborne and landing safely, with the company announcing that production is expected to begin in 2028.
The unveiling represents another bold step by Tesla Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, whose companies have consistently pursued technologies aimed at transforming transportation, communication and space exploration.
The flying-capable Roadster is the latest addition to a portfolio of ambitious ventures associated with Musk, although he did not personally invent every technology behind them.
Instead, his role has largely involved founding, co-founding, financing and leading companies that have driven innovation across multiple industries.
Musk’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1995 when he co-founded Zip2 with his brother, Kimbal Musk.
The company developed an online city guide and mapping platform that enabled newspapers to establish digital business directories and provide maps and directions at a time when the internet was still in its early commercial stages.
Zip2 was acquired by Compaq in 1999 for more than US$300 million, providing Musk with the capital to invest in future technology ventures.
He later co-founded X.com, an online financial services and payments company that evolved into PayPal, helping make digital payments faster and more accessible worldwide.
Musk has since expanded into electric vehicles through Tesla, reusable rockets with SpaceX, satellite internet through Starlink and brain-computer technology with Neuralink.
The unveiling of the redesigned Roadster highlights his continued ambition to push the boundaries of mobility by blending automotive engineering with aerospace technology.
