Patriotic Front (PF) acting president, Given Lubinda, has appealed to the Zambian authorities to release politician, Dr Chishimba Kambwili’s passport to enable him to seek medical treatment outside the country.
Kambwili, a former Information Minister, was released from prison on Thursday after serving a five-month jail term for hate speech.
However, shortly before his release, the Immigration Department charged and arrested him for failing to present himself to an immigration officer.
He was later released after meeting police bond conditions.
In a statement issued on his official social media page following a visit to Kambwili’s residence, Lubinda expressed concern over the politician’s health condition.
“We went to visit Dr Chishimba Kambwili at his residence; he is not well at all. He clearly needs medical attention,” he said.

Lubinda disclosed that Kambwili has a medical appointment scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, in South Africa, where his doctors are expected to calibrate his sleep apnoea machine.
He explained that the machine, which Kambwili relies on to stabilise his breathing during sleep, had malfunctioned due to dust accumulation over the past few months.
Lubinda further appealed for public support, stressing that Kambwili urgently required access to specialised care.
