Premiership: Late Antonio header deals another blow to Liverpool’s title hopes

West Ham United dealt another blow to Liverpool’s fading hopes of clinching the Premier League title as Michail Antonio’s late header secured a 2-2 draw at London Stadium on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s team, still reeling from a disappointing 2-0 loss to Everton on Wednesday, faced further disappointment as Jarrod Bowen’s goal and assist on his 200th appearance for West Ham added to their woes.

Additionally, Bowen’s 16th Premier League goal of the season leveled him with Paolo Di Canio for the most goals scored by a West Ham player in a single season in the competition, a record set by the Italian in 1999.

Despite Liverpool’s spirited response to Bowen’s opener, including Andy Robertson’s 48th-minute equalizer and Alphonse Areola’s own goal putting them ahead, Bowen assisted Antonio’s header to salvage a draw for West Ham with just 13 minutes left.

The result left Liverpool trailing leaders Arsenal by two points, with the Gunners set to face Spurs on Sunday and one point behind Manchester City, who have two games in hand.

Meanwhile, West Ham remains in eighth place.

Furthermore, in another match Zeki Amdouni’s late penalty brought Burnley within touching distance of safety, with just three matches left in the season.

Despite Manchester United breaking the deadlock, Burnley rallied admirably to secure a well-deserved draw.

This crucial point leaves Burnley in 19th place, now just two points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest set to host Manchester City on Sunday, while Burnley’s opponents remain in sixth position.
