Police in Mwandi District, Western Province, are investigating a tragic incident in which three children are alleged to have beaten a seven-year-old girl to death.
Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred on November 28, 2025, around 09:00 hours in the Mwazamba area of Mwandi District.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, Chilabi said police received the report at about 18:30 hours the same day, indicating that a Grade 1 pupil at a local primary school, identified as seven-year-old Mwaka Sifukama, had been brutally assaulted by three fellow pupils.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sifukama was walking to school in the company of three other pupils—a 10-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl—when an argument broke out.
“While on their way to school, the three reportedly quarrelled with her and allegedly beat her, resulting in fatal injuries. Sticks and fists are reported to have been used,” Chilabi said.
Sifukama was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Chilabi said the girl’s body has been deposited in the Mwandi Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the three children allegedly involved have been placed in the care of the Department of Social Welfare, which is implementing child protection measures to ensure they receive appropriate support.
In a separate development, police in Mongu have apprehended ten male suspects aged between 15 and 28, believed to be members of criminal gangs commonly referred to as “junkies.”
Police also recovered a 50 kg bag of suspected stolen fertiliser along the Mongu–Senanga Road near Ngulu Hotel.

“This followed an operation conducted on November 28, 2025, around 21:00 hours, with the participation of members of the Neighbourhood Watch,” Chilabi said.
He said the patrol covered Katongo, Mbuyuwana, Kapulanga, Malengwa, the District Hospital area, Chisonga/Mandanga and the Town Centre.
Chilabi added that both foot and motorised patrols were deployed to enhance visibility and security in the district.
“Police encourage members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” he said.
The ten suspects are in custody as investigations continue to establish their involvement in various criminal activities.
