Three passengers died on the spot in a road traffic accident that occurred on October 17, 2025, around 20:00 hours, near Chikubula Primary School along the Great North Road, about 20 kilometres west of Serenje Town.

The accident involved a stationary Faw truck and trailer, registration numbers T301 DSZ / T279 DBV, driven by an unknown Tanzanian national, and an unregistered Toyota Spacio, IT number 2223, carrying three male passengers.

Deputy Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, confirmed the accident in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Spacio lost control due to excessive speed and rammed into the stationary Faw truck and trailer, which had developed a mechanical fault.

All three passengers died on the spot, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Serenje District Hospital, where he is currently admitted.

“The Toyota Spacio was extensively damaged, while the Faw truck had damage to its rear section,” Chilabi said.

He added that the bodies of the deceased are lying in the Serenje District Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.

In a separate incident, police in Mansa District have apprehended two male suspects, identified as Kennedy Kapamba, aged 22, and Goodson Sikanyika, aged 29, both of Musenga Site and Service, in connection with a suspected murder case.

“The incident occurred on October 17, 2025, between 02:00 and 05:00 hours in Musenga Site and Service, Mansa,” Chilabi said.

Police received a report from a concerned citizen that a man, identified only as John, aged between 25 and 30, was attacked by a mob after being suspected of theft.

The victim was rushed to Mansa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“His body has been deposited at Mansa General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting identification and postmortem,” Chilabi said.
