The Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway, called Donald J. Trump Highway is an eloquent illustration of the depth of the friendship relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, as well as the great mutual esteem between His Majesty the King of Morocco Mohammed VI and US President Donald J. Trump.

In a Letter dated July 2, 2026, His Majesty King Mohammed VI had informed the American President the Royal Decision to baptize the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway by the name of the President of the United States of America: “Donald J. Trump Highway.”

In this Letter, His Majesty stressed that Although our relations have always been anchored in a close friendship and constant fidelity, they have never been more vigorous and fruitful than during your two presidential terms. Addressing the American President, the Sovereign affirmed that your historic recognition, in 2020, of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara will remain forever etched in the memory of Moroccans, from generation to generation, adding that in fact, this recognition has given unprecedented impetus to our bilateral relations.

In tribute to this testimony of friendship and peace, and in personal expression of My High Consideration, I have made the decision to name one of the most important road infrastructure in the Kingdom, named after the Donald J Highway. Trump. Covering more than 1,055 kilometers with a cost of 1 billion dollars, this route is the longest road infrastructure in all of Africa, said His Majesty the King. A strategic axis of vital importance, it connects northern and southern Morocco, while connecting Europe to the African continent. It thus unifies our country, just as your leadership has brought our two nations together in an unprecedented way, continued the Sovereign.

Reacting to this initiative with a strong symbolic significance, the American President expressed his thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in a message published on his social network Truth Social, July 26, 2026. In this message, the American President also confirmed to His Majesty the King that the United States is clear: we recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and we support the Moroccan proposal of serious, credible and realistic autonomy as the only basis for a just and lasting solution.

This initiative further reinforces the exceptional nature of the strategic partnership between the two countries, a historic relationship that has continued to strengthen under the leadership of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald J. Trump.

Beyond its infrastructure dimension, the “Donald J. Trump Highway » has a major strategic scope. A true backbone of the Moroccan Atlantic corridor, it is part of the Royal Vision to make the Atlantic coast an integrated space for development, cooperation and shared prosperity with African countries. The baptism of this highway on behalf of President Donald J. Trump also reflects the geopolitical dimension of this structuring project, which goes beyond the framework of a national infrastructure to establish itself as a strategic axis promoting trade and economic complementarity in West Africa, within the framework of the major Atlantic initiatives carried by His Majesty the King.
