Three people have died and several others injured following a road accident at Kalweo roadside market, approximately 20 kilometers north of Kapiri Mposhi in Central Province.
The fatal crash occurred on August 5, 2025, around 15:30 hours along the Ndola highway near the Kalweo market.
Central Province Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Kabwe on Saturday.
She said the driver of a Sino truck and trailer, registered CAH 2301/CAH 2302 and identified as 29-year-old Mweemba Brian Choongo from Kitwe, lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into the market shelter.
The collision resulted in the deaths of three female marketeers and the truck driver. Nine female marketeers and a passenger from the truck sustained injuries.
The truck was traveling from Ndola towards Kapiri Mposhi at the time of the accident. The vehicle sustained damage to its right door and a shattered windscreen.
The deceased bodies have been taken to the Kapiri Urban Clinic Mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at Kapiri District Hospital.
