The Lusaka Provincial Administration has begun engaging top artistes, including Yo Maps, Chester, Chanda na Kay, and Chile One, alongside bands such as Amayenge, Airpower, Green Labels, and Peace Preachers, to enhance this year’s Independence Carnival.
Scheduled for October 25, the carnival aims to promote tourism and showcase Zambia’s cultural diversity, with Vice President Mutale Nalumango expected to grace the event.
Lusaka Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Logic Lukwanda, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He said the street carnival will start from Kalingalinga, passing through Hellen Kaunda, Mtendere, Kaunda Square, and Kamanga before concluding at Nkoloma Stadium in Chelston — the main venue.
This year’s celebrations will be held under the theme “61 Years of Peace and Unity: Building a Resilient and Prosperous Zambia.” The carnival will feature traditional performances and dances from all ten provinces.
Lukwanda said the theme reflected the enduring spirit of the national motto, “One Zambia, One Nation,” which has sustained the country’s unity since independence.

“For us this theme means respecting the peace and unity the country has enjoyed from 1964, building on the peace and unity enjoyed for the past 61 years. This for us means upholding the values Zambia has stood on for all these years,” he said.
He added that the message also encouraged citizens to remain strong and resilient against elements of division such as tribalism, hate, or nepotism, emphasizing that Zambia belongs to everyone.
“The Independence Carnival also serves as an avenue for both the promotion of tourism and cultural heritage,” Lukwanda said.
He urged all citizens to take part in the festivities on October 25 and enjoy cultural performances from across the country at Nkoloma Stadium.
