The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has reportedly intensified its integrity and anti-corruption efforts by recruiting a team of expert investigators to strengthen transparency, accountability and ethical conduct within the institution.
In a statement issued on Sunday, ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, said the newly appointed officers would serve as internal watchdogs tasked with investigating cases of misconduct, enforcing the Authority’s Code of Conduct, and supporting ongoing anti-corruption initiatives.
Welcoming the officers, Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, underscored the critical role of integrity in the Authority’s operations.
“Your work is not glamorous but it is essential. You will investigate misconduct and corruption to protect our institution’s integrity, credibility, and trust.
“We expect professionalism, discretion, and courage from you all. Integrity is ZRA’s core value, and while you will be held to high ethical standards, you will also receive full support in performing your duties fairly. Stand for the truth, serve with honour, and uphold justice,” he said.
The new investigators would focus on probing suspected corruption and misconduct, monitoring high-risk areas, and collaborating with external law enforcement agencies such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), and the Zambia Police Service to ensure the prosecution of internal offenders.
Banda reaffirmed ZRA’s commitment to sealing revenue leakages and strengthening internal systems.
“To deliver on our mandate, we must not only expand the tax base and enhance administrative efficiency but also close all revenue leakages. This is where your role becomes crucial. We need to rebuild the Internal Affairs Unit so that it functions effectively as a key tool in protecting revenue. You have my full support,” he stated.
ZRA emphasised that combating corruption is a shared responsibility that requires strong public participation.
The Authority called on citizens, taxpayers, and stakeholders to work together in exposing unethical practices that undermine service delivery and national development.
The Authority further urged members of the public to report any suspected corruption or unethical conduct encountered in their interactions with ZRA officials.
“Every report matters. Together, we can build a transparent and accountable revenue system that serves all Zambians,” the statement read.
