Zambia will host the 2025 Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA2025) in October this year, a high-level gathering set to accelerate e-government innovation across the continent.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, the Electronic Government Division, Smart Zambia Institute (SZI), in partnership with AfricanBrains, confirmed on Wednesday that the summit will be held under the patronage of the Zambian government.

The statement indicated that it will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Technology and Science, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, and the Smart Zambia Institute—signaling a whole-of-government approach to digital transformation.

Organisers stated that DGA2025 is expected to draw more than 350 government delegates, including over 25 ministerial delegations from across Africa.

It stated that participants will represent critical sectors such as Interior, Finance, ICT, and the Digital Economy.

The statement indicated that the summit will serve as a strategic platform for government-to-industry engagement, focusing on scalable, secure, and citizen-centric e-government systems.

Discussions will centre on digital identity and verification, e-government infrastructure, cybersecurity and data protection, online taxation and digital payments, government cloud and data sovereignty, and regional interoperability.

President Hakainde Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing Africa’s digital integration, stressing the need for technology to ease trade.

“We need to use digitalisation in the movement of goods across our borders. We should have non-border posts… that can be achieved through technology,” he said.

Building on the success of the previous edition, organisers noted that such gatherings had become vital as more African countries embrace digital transformation.

Global benchmarks indicate that a one percent improvement in public sector efficiency can generate GDP savings of up to 1.1 percent, underscoring the transformative potential of ICTs in public administration.

The summit is expected to play a catalytic role in shaping Africa’s government landscape in the years ahead.
