The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has fined ZESCO United Football Club for fielding 20 ineligible players in their fixture against Konkola Blades.

ZPL Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Chimpampwe, in a disciplinary letter dated August 19, 2025, referred to the match played on Saturday, August 16, 2025, between the two sides.

He said the sanctions were guided by Article 55 and Article 31 of the FAZ Disciplinary Code (2021).

Among the penalties imposed is the forfeiture of the match, which has been awarded as a 3-0 victory to Konkola Blades, in line with competition regulations.

In addition, ZESCO United has been fined K10,000, payable to the ZPL within seven days of receipt of the decision.

Chimpampwe noted that the club submitted an official team list containing FAZ ID numbers belonging to players different from those listed, describing the act as a serious breach of competition integrity.

“This may amount to falsification of official documents, contrary to the provisions of the FAZ Disciplinary Code,” he said.

He added that the misrepresentation to match officials and the league administration undermined the fairness and credibility of the competition, warning that if it was established that the mismatched FAZ IDs were knowingly submitted, the matter could amount to fraudulent conduct.

Chimpampwe stressed that the league considered such conduct unacceptable and strongly advised the club to ensure strict compliance with player registration, eligibility, and competition rules.

He further warned that continued breaches of this nature would attract more severe sanctions, but noted that ZESCO United had the right to appeal to the FAZ Disciplinary Committee within the stipulated time frame.
