Chingola man stabbed in the stomach over reported beer fight

An 18 year-old boy of Chingola has reportedly been stabbed in the stomach during a misunderstanding over beer .

According to a video doing rounds on social media,the victim was seen holding intestines as he struggled to breathe.

In a statement on Saturday, Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, confirmed that police in Chiwempala, a notorious township known for crimes and illegal mining activities, received a report on an injured person.

“The incidence occurred on February 2,2024 around 16:30 hours at Blue Moon bar at Chiwempala trading area in Chingola in which James Chola aged 46 of unknown address was stabbed on his stomach using a broken bottle by Nonde Simfukwe aged 20 thereby sustaining a deep cut on the left side of the stomach,” Mweemba said.

Brief facts were that on the stated dates around 16:00 hours, the victim was at Blue Moon bar drinking beer with the suspect.

In the process the suspect demanded that he be given beer by the victim but when the victim refused, the suspect got upset and slapped him.

The two then got into a fight which made the suspect to pick up a bottle, broke it and in the process stabbed the victim in the stomach causing him to sustain the alleged injuries.

He said the victim was rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital by members of the public and was receiving treatment.

According Mweemba, the condition of the victim was unstable.

He said more details on the arrest of the alleged perpetrator would follow later.

Police had since opened a docket and arrest made.
