Chingola mobile money businessman fatally shot, K370,000 reportedly stolen

A mobile money agent was shot dead and another injured in a violent robbery in Chingola on Wednesday.

According to a police statement released Friday, the victims, Dickson Kabwe, 44, and Madubeko Mazuba, 43, were attacked outside their mother’s residence on 15th Street in Nchanga South, Chingola, just before entering the gate.

Both Kabwe and Mazuba had started delivering their earnings to their mother after a colleague in Nchanga North was recently attacked and killed.

Police report that unknown assailants shot Kabwe in the head, killing him instantly, while Mazuba sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and had been in critical condition at Nchanga North Hospital.

The attackers reportedly stole a white Toyota Runx, registration number BCG 1736ZM, valued at K120,000, along with K250,000 in cash.

The total value of stolen property and cash was estimated at K370,000.

Police officers who responded to the crime scene recovered four 9mm pistol cartridges and a small Itel phone.

Investigations have been launched, though no arrests have been made.

Mazuba is currently undergoing surgery, while Kabwe’s body has been taken to the mortuary at Nchanga North Hospital.
