Sinda teacher on the run after allegedly defiling grade seven pupil, aged 13

Police in Sinda district of Eastern Province have launched a manhunt for a teacher identified as Peter Mwanza of Masulwe Primary School for allegedly defilling a grade seven pupil, aged 13.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said investigations had so far revealed that the victim was carrying a seven week pregnancy.
Hamoonga in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday said the matter was reported to Sinda police on November 13, 2023 at 12:58 hours by the uncle to the victim.
He said the offense was alleged to have been committed between July 2023 and October, 2023 and that the suspect was on the run.
“In another development, police in Lusaka have apprehended Africa Nanjaya Junior, aged 35, of Chawama Compound in John Laing Compound for the offences of Identity Related Crimes,” Hamoonga said.
He stated that the offence was contrary to Section 54 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act and Obtaining Money by False Pretense Contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
“Brief facts of the matter are that between July and October 2023, the accused did collect money and goods from unsuspecting members of the Public on the pretext that he was going to recruit them in the Zambia Police Service,” Hamoonga said.
He said the suspect was detained in custody and would appear in court soon.
